Artist Statement

I am a camera.

I believe strongly in observation, truly seeing the world around me. My art making begins always with seeing and drawing--from there it meanders and twists through process and abstraction. I need to surprise myself. I don't think I could keep working on a piece if I knew the end result.

My art has moved from formalist beginnings to an emotional, more personal kind of expression.

The art of the past has a powerful presence for me especially art that grew out of that mix of spirituality, eroticism, beauty, violence and will to power that is Catholicism.
